How can I know if my driving licence is valid for RideLink?

It is in everyone’s interest to have a safe and trusted community, where people can rent cars without worrying. It is for this reason that we created a process to validate and screen renters.  We run checks with UK’s Driver and Vehicle licensing agency (DVLA) and confirm that the driver’s address matches their licence. Before you can rent a vehicle on RideLink you must have your licence verified by our support team.  If you’re in doubt whether you are eligible to rent a car on RideLink, check our driver eligibility requirements.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After you upload your licence details, our support team will use the email address linked with your RideLink account to send you instructions for validating your driving licence.

If you have signed up with Facebook, please check the email address that is associated with your Facebook account.

We always recommend getting your licence verified before you contact car owners. All car owners on the platform think and respond individually, so some may not feel comfortable accepting or responding to requests from unverified drivers.

If you do not have a driving licence that has been issued in the UK, you can do the following:

  • When your driving licence is from an EU country: you can upload your licence normally on the platform. If all the checks we run are correct, your licence will be validated straight away.

  • When your driving licence is from a non-EU country: First check if you hold a valid driving licence to drive in the UK. Click here to check if you can drive in Great Britain with your non-GB driving licence.
  • You'll also need to be domiciled in the UK, European Union, United States, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa or have held a UK licence for over 2 years.
  • If you meet the requirements above, you will need to upload the photos of your driving licence to the platform and as well as a photo of your valid passport.
